[An upbeat male voice comes on:]
Hey, it's Morgan! If you were expecting a girl, you picked the wrong picture. If not, then congratulations! But sorry too, because this means I've missed you. Leave a message!
[Beep.]
(( ooc: feel free to use this for face-to-face interactions as well! just leave a date and voice/action/etc. in the header. ))

...Of course I will keep it under advisement if you act, um, shady. I just realized, after that maze...that I no longer had anyone who had promised to make certain to never allow me to walk that path, any longer.
And you are one of the people I trust to make certain that never comes to pass, so. [ What...A GREAT PRACTICAL REQUEST... ] On a different note, do you think that Zohra fellow will teach me how to fight without a weapon? I keep getting mine taken away from me, whether due to being dropped into a maze courtesy Kite or kidnapped by employees, and I think next time it happens I would like to be able to put up a proper fuss about it.
[ can someone teach her how to deck a dude ]

Now that you mention it, I got him cozy with the idea of taking on your dagger training! He'll really step up your ability. He's an ace with knives, and the bare-handed stuff too. I'm sure he won't mind teaching you one more thing while you're at it!
[ He probably shouldn't be so sure, and it will probably be much more than just "one thing", but details, details. ]
Do you want me to call him up for you?
no subject
Oooh, please do! I can trade him language lessons of any sort, should he want them! Or my eternal gratitude, if he would prefer that. I would offer to title him and give him land, but that seems a little silly when Novoselic is nowhere near here.

[ HANGING UP. That was a tidy conversation... ]
no subject
Sonia, I'm back! He says you and Noire can have group lessons for the unarmed stuff. And he'll take your offer of a new language!
no subject
Oh, good! He can take his pick of them later, then. Just tell me where and when to show up! [ ... ] On the topic of languages, what one do you speak, Morgan? I wonder if I could contrive to learn it...perhaps if one of you were to teach me via writing in the library at North. Or to deliberately try to get around the translation effect...
no subject
Now that you mention it, learning each other's languages might be a good precaution. Someone's told me the story of a god who destroyed his people's tower because they dared to build it too high. And then he got them all discombobulated by forcing them to speak different languages! Kind of a jerk move, I thought.
But my point is: if Yao ever thought they needed to break us up quick-like, they could probably just remove whatever magic it is that allows us to understand each other.

[ Luckily, she picks up languages pretty quickly IDK ONCE YOU KNOW 30+ IT GETS A LITTLE EASIER TO LEARN THEM MAN... ]
So, in that case, let us begin at once! I would offer to teach you Novoselic in return, but I think if we are to trade language lessons, you would find either English or Japanese the most readily useful should the translation magic ever fail as in your story. ...I would also offer Chinese lessons given much of Yao's nonsense is in it, but again, I do not think many people speak that natively...Korra and her friends aside.
[ Literally no one speaks Sonia's native language but LUCKILY SHE HAS SKILLS that don't matter when you have everything auto-translated anyway, except for reading books in the library. ]
no subject
[ All the -kuns and stuff everyone tosses around does make him curious about Japanese, though. Maybe he'll tackle that one after. EASY PEASY. ]
I've never learned a new language before. This'll be fun! We can start off with a few key phrases like... "Ambush!" or "Get me a healer!"
[ And he won't have too hard a time of it because his Fire Emblem language is presumably Englishy in nature. HUZZAH. ]
no subject
[ ...BECAUSE ANIMES + ENGLISH CANONS SO... ]
And absolutely we can start there! We should probably start lessons as soon as possible.
no subject
[ And he repeats it more slowly to help her hear it through the auto-translate. It's nice that they don't have to explain what anything actually means?? ]
no subject
Hoy there! [ .......though when she says it, Sonia speaks in perfect, unaccented English. The switch is natural to her; despite the auto-translate, she's always tried to match what people are speaking when she can. It's actually a marked change from how she usually speaks to Morgan, which he might notice! Given that she doesn't know his language, she actually speaks to him in Novoselican for the most part. ]
As to the other two phrases..."Ambush!" and "Get me a healer!"
[ Like he did, she speaks slowly. ...And then, trying to mimic what he'd said earlier, she repeats the three phrases as she thought she heard him say them. ]
no subject
Hey, listen to you! You'll sound like an Ylissean native in no time.
[ He beams happily. It's a little different to be hearing his home language from non-Shepherds now... but it's even more exciting!! ]
My turn! Hoy there! [ In imperfect, accented English, though it isn't too far off. ] Amboosh, get me a healer!
[ And now he is ready for nearly any dire circumstance that might strike in a post-translator world. ]
no subject
Very good! I understood exactly what you were saying. [ Though she will give him accent tips later. ]
I've missed learning things like this.
no subject
[ There's probably like... five max, right... ]
no subject
[ no
no it's not ]
no subject
[ HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE. ]
I didn't even know there were thirty languages to learn in one world! And here I was pumped up about learning three little bits of one... How do you keep it all straight in your head?
no subject
[ it's p insane really ]
As to keeping it straight...really, the more languages you learn, the easier it becomes. I suppose it can be hard to imagine when you know just one?
no subject
-- Well, that settles it! I'll have English under my belt in six months at most!
[ BY HIS MOTHER'S SUPERIOR GENES ]
no subject
[ ????? Anyone's Dangan Ronpa ages ]
But I believe in you, Morgan! I will endeavour to learn your language as quickly as possible!
[ she's aiming for like 2-3 months tho because she's insane ]
